Leicester City Purposal:

Leicester asks Ben Chilwell to remain at the King Power Stadium. The Foxes finished in the fifth spot in the Premier League table. The same article states that Chilwell wants to play in the Champions League next season. He wants to underline his credentials for the starting spot at left-back in the England team.

Chilwell wants to play for England ahead of next summer’s Euro 2020 championship. According to the same story, Chelsea FC and Manchester United would pay the Leicester defender more than his current wages at the King Power Stadium if Chilwell moves to Stamford Bridge or Old Trafford this summer.

Having said that, the Sun also reports that Leicester manager Brendan Rodgers is confident that the Foxes can retain the services of Chilwell for another season. Chilwell scored three times and made three assists in 27 games in the Premier League this season to help Leicester finish in the fifth spot in the table.

The England full-back netted four times in 123 games in all competitions over the past four seasons. Chilwell broke into the Leicester team in 2016. Leicester lost 2-0 to Manchester United in their final Premier League game of the 2019-20 season. Goals scored by Bruno Fernandes and Jesse Lingard.

The Foxes finished four points adrift of Chelsea FC and Manchester United n the race to secure a top-four spot. Chilwell has established himself in the England team under Gareth Southgate. The full-back made 11 appearances in the past two years for the Three Lions.

Champions League – Mason Mount targets improvement after excellent Premier League debut season

He’s only just getting started. The thing that’s so very easy to forget about Mason Mount is that this is only his very first Chelsea season, his very first Premier League season. Champions League fans can book Champions League Final Tickets on our website on exclusively discounted prices.

And while he’s always had a mature head on his shoulders, he is still only just 21 and will be 21 for another six months, including for the first half of next season (on the Internet, it never hurts to explain how age works). Basically, barring something truly tragic, he’s only going to get better from here.

Champions League - Mason Mount targets improvement after excellent Premier League debut season
Champions League – Mason Mount targets improvement after excellent Premier League debut season

“He’ll get better because he is so young and sometimes when a player comes in and plays in their breakthrough year and stays consistently in the team, people maybe think they are older than they are.”

“His all-round game for the season has been brilliant, his work ethic and how he handles himself daily in training is brilliant, and he will get a lot better. He has contributed a huge amount and that is just a start for Mason at Chelsea.”

-Frank Lampard; source: Chelsea FC

Lampard’s Chelsea is already quite dependent on him to execute the coach’s vision to its full potential. That’s likely to only increase even with players like Hakim Ziyech and (probably) Kai Havertz coming in. It’s not that Mount is Lampard’s favorite son; it’s more than Mount is a perfect fit for Lampard’s style of football. And may that long continue, by the way.

Mason Mount played his very first Chelsea season, his very first Premier League season

Of course, when you’re 21, you’re not going to be a consistently excellent footballer just yet. Those are things that come with age and experience. Fortunately, Mount’s acquiring the latter at a rapid pace, leading Chelsea in the number of appearances (third in minutes behind Azpilicueta and Arrizabalaga) and looking to learn from every moment.

The place where personally wants to improve the most is in European games, which, thanks in large part to his contributions, will be of the Champions League variety once again next season. All I wanted was to finish off the season in the top four and get into the Champions League. That is massive for the club.

That was all our focus. All our focus before the game, everybody needed to step up and deliver.

“We want to be playing Champions League football. You play against brilliant teams. We want to get as far as we did this season and then go on further.”

If I look back at performances in the Champions League I know I can do better. This is a learning season for me. I had never played it before this season, I had only watched it on TV.

Mount’s acquiring the latter at a rapid pace, leading Chelsea in the number of appearances
Mount’s acquiring the latter at a rapid pace, leading Chelsea in the number of appearances

“This year I’ve been lucky enough to play in it and have learned so much. The games are so much quicker than normal matches. There’s the build-up, the lights, it all goes so quick. I can go into next season knowing I played a few games now.”

Chelsea is of course not officially out of this season’s competition yet either, though overcoming a 3-0 deficit against Bayern Munich in the Round of 16-second leg in a couple of weeks is unlikely to happen, to say the least. You never know, obviously, and that’s why you play the games, but the focus is definitely on the bigger picture, on the constant improvement.

“Chelsea belongs in the Champions League. As players, we want to keep pushing and go further. I know we are not out yet but it’s a tough ask at Bayern. They are a brilliant team, we want to win it but focusing on next season to keep improving.”

Champions League – Manchester United keep £75m Adidas sponsorship deal intact after qualification

United reached the Champions League on the last day of the season. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side beat Leicester City 2-0 on Sunday afternoon. United are now able to claim all of their £75million-a-year kit deal with Adidas. Champions League fans can book Champions League Final Tickets on our website on exclusively discounted prices.

The club’s kit supplier was allowed to keep £25million if they failed to qualify. Manchester United have avoided the potential loss of £25million through kit sponsorship after they qualified for the Champions League on Sunday.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side beat top-four rivals Leicester City 2-0 in a winner-takes-all clash on the final day of the Premier League season to seal a spot in Europe’s premier club competition. Had the Red Devils lost to Brendan Rodgers’ side on Sunday, they would have finished in fifth place.

Europa League:

Only winning the highly-competitive Europa League tournament in August would have secured Champions League football for next season. Missing out on the Champions League for a second successive season would have allowed kit supplier Adidas to keep £25million of their £75million-a-year sponsorship deal next season.

But now the Red Devils are sat at Europe’s top table, Adidas are required to give the Premier League giants this extra 33 per cent instalment which the club could spend in the summer transfer window.

Manchester United’s kit deal with Adidas is the second-highest in the Premier League, behind Liverpool’s £80million-a-year deal with Nike which was finalised in January 2020. If Adidas had been allowed to keep £25million of the sponsorship deal, United would have received less money in annual kit revenue than rivals Chelsea, Manchester City and Arsenal.

Champions League - Manchester United keep £75m adidas sponsorship deal intact after qualification
Champions League – Manchester United keep £75m Adidas sponsorship deal intact after qualification

Manchester City has the third-highest kit deal in England’s top-flight due to their £65million-a-year with Puma, while Arsenal and Chelsea bring in £60m-a-year with Adidas and Nike respectively. Tottenham Hotspur, on the other hand, rake in £30m-a-year through their deal with Nike.

Despite now being able to fall back on £75million-a-year from their kit supplier, United’s deal is still small in comparison to La Liga giants Real Madrid and Barcelona, who earn £110m and £100m respectively.

5 causes why Leicester City can pip Manchester United or Chelsea to Champions League place

Leicester City may be the underdogs for a top-four finish going into Sunday’s final round of Premier League fixtures but there are plenty of causes for optimism. Champions League fans can book Champions League Final Tickets on our website on exclusively discounted prices.

Look at the injury list, look at the squad lists, look at the form table, look at the actual table, and everything points towards a Manchester United win this weekend that would see Leicester City’s 11-month pursuit of Champions League football ended on the final day.

5 causes why Leicester City can pip Manchester United or Chelsea to Champions League place
5 causes why Leicester City can pip Manchester United or Chelsea to Champions League place

There will be a section of City fans taking a pessimistic view of Sunday’s showdown and already searching for potential Europa League opponents. But there are a handful of reasons to be optimistic.

The city may have a fitness edge:

It’s been a grueling six weeks for Premier League players, who have followed three months off with a game every three or four days. But City players this week were handed the slight relief of a few days off with Brendan Rodgers’ side afforded a week-long break between matches.

Because of their FA Cup involvement, United have not had such a luxury and have had half the time to prepare for the game following their clash with West Ham on Wednesday. Rodgers doesn’t know if the quick turnaround will affect United, but he certainly knows his side are fresher than they were last weekend.

He said “It’s not something that we wanted to talk about in the aftermath of the Tottenham match but I felt we were tired and leggy after the game. I am happy we have been able to recover well, put a plan in place, and then be fresh as we can for the game. How it affects the other team I don’t know. But for us, the week gives us every opportunity.”

The city may have a fitness edge:
The city may have a fitness edge:

Home advantage retained:

More than any other game, this is the one that City would have wanted 30,000 fans there cheering them on. Despite the absence of supporters, home advantage does still exist in the Premier League, post-restart stats have shown.

And City’s record at the King Power Stadium is good. They’ve only lost one of their last six home league matches – to Manchester City – and have kept clean sheets in their last four on home turf.

Is United’s form that good?

Much has been made of United’s form and their 13-match unbeaten run in the Premier League. While any streak that reaches double figures is impressive, it perhaps does not stand up as quite so brilliant when examined more closely. Since the restart, United have won five and drawn three of their Premier League games.

And while they defeated Sheffield United – one of the teams’ City also downed – all of their other victories have come against sides in the bottom six. They failed to get the better of Spurs, Southampton, and then West Ham on Wednesday, where they underwhelmed. That should give City hope.

The city can also sneak into the top four with a draw but for that to happen, they need Chelsea to lose
The city can also sneak into the top four with a draw but for that to happen, they need Chelsea to lose

Wolves can provide a lifeline:

The city can also sneak into the top four with a draw but for that to happen, they need Chelsea to lose. Thankfully, Frank Lampard’s side is playing a team with something to fight for. Wolves, who have so often been the menace of big clubs this season, need a win to ensure they finish above Spurs and guarantee Europa League qualification.

If they can do that, and City hold firm at the King Power, Champions League football will be secured.

The real Leicester are still there:

The above reasons skirt over that City are still a pretty decent team. It’s been easy to forget during their gradual slip down the table, but only a week-and-a-half ago, this injury-hit side dominated and secured a comfortable victory against an in-form, organised Sheffield United.

Recent evidence of how well this team can play should bring confidence to fans, players, and staff alike.

Champions League – Why Setien should not be throw out ahead of the restart

Barcelona is only a day away from facing Napoli in the Champions League at Camp Nou in the return leg of Round of 16. Champions League fans can book Champions League Final Tickets on our website on exclusively discounted prices.

The 1-1 draw achieved in the away game in Italy gives the Blaugranes a slight edge, but the tie is certainly far from over. Setien has been at the heart of severe criticism for several weeks after his poor squad management, amongst many other factors discussed in our latest The Barcelona Podcast.

Champions League Final Tickets - Why Setien should not be throw out ahead of the restart
Champions League – Why Setien should not be throw out ahead of the restart

This resulted in Real Madrid being delegated La Liga champions just because of 2017. Barcelona has no choice but to win the Champions League to avoid finishing the season empty-handed. A likely potential scenario that would add even more pressure on Josep Maria Bartomeu, Setien, and even the players themselves.

Many Culers have been calling for the immediate sacking of Setien, and I can fully understand why. Supporters have become frustrated with the manager’s poor distribution of minutes to avoid fatigue. His inability to build an effective relationship with his players.

Ultimately, failing to win La Liga despite taking over the team when they were leading the table. As I argued in the latest The Barcelona Podcast, however, finding someone better to take over at this stage of the season is almost impossible.

While the media has speculated with big names such as Xavi, Ronald Koeman or even Mauricio Pochettino, they have all reportedly refused a move to the Camp Nou – at least for now. Laurent Blanc has also been linked to Barcelona in recent days.

Ronald Koeman or even Mauricio Pochettino, they have all reportedly refused a move to the Camp Nou
Ronald Koeman or even Mauricio Pochettino, they have all reportedly refused a move to the Camp Nou

Honestly, I am not convinced that a manager who has been out of a job since June 2016 (when he was sacked by PSG) could lead the change that this Barcelona squad so desperately needs. Even if Blanc was to join Barca, this should take place once the current season is over to give him enough time.

He has to implement his philosophy, decide on the players he would like to keep, then build a rapport with those who are staying. There just isn’t enough time for this to happen before the Champions League restart.

Barca B manager Garcia Pimienta, who is currently fighting to promote his youngsters to Segunda Division, would be a better choice as he already knows Barcelona inside out after years of successfully managing almost every age-group in La Masia.

While Pimienta would not be a terrible choice right now, I believe that it makes more sense for Bartomeu to give Setien a final shot to redeem himself and prove why he was hired in the first place. Ultimately, Bartomeu took a risk when he appointed Setien mid-season.

Barcelona is only a day away from facing Napoli in the Champions League at Camp Nou

I would be shocked if he sacked him ahead of the biggest tournament of the year. While Setien is not perfect, he does know the players better than any of his potential replacements. If reports are to be believed, has already spoken to Messi about sticking together for the benefit of the team and park their differences until the season is over.

While it is impossible to predict whether this case of ‘Better the devil you know‘ will bring the Champions League to the Camp Nou, I believe keeping Setien is the best way forward given that the alternatives would not build on the progress made since the manager’s arrival back in January.

Barcelona needs a fresh start, but the time for this will come once the Champions League is over.

On Thursday, the Times has an update on Aguero’s road to recovery following his operation. In good news for Man City, reporter Paul Hirst has revealed that Aguero is ahead of schedule on his comeback program. The Times understands that the operation went better than expected.

Dr. Cugat had the option to amend the harm caused to the meniscus in Aguero’s left knee, which he wound in a test with Ben Mee, the Burnley safeguard. In practice, the Times reveals that Aguero is now working three times a day in the gym to build up his fitness for the tail end of the season.

Specifically, readers are told that Aguero has begun working on an exercise bike, while the Argentine is expected to start running drills shortly. Aguero’s aim seems clear: be fit for the Champions League quarterfinals.

What about Real Madrid’s preparations for Man City?

While Aguero is targeting a return in the Champions League quarterfinals, will City get there? Real Madrid will be aiming to overturn their 2-1 deficit at the Etihad Stadium. It’s also worth noting that manager Zinedine Zidane has never lost a 2-legged knockout tie in the Champions League.

Real Madrid’s squad is now on a short break following the end of the La Liga campaign. Real won the title ahead of Barcelona. Yet, not all of Real’s players are now on vacation.

As confirmed by Marca, Eden Hazard, who struggled with injuries this season, is currently enduring a “mini pre-season” to be fit for the Man City clash. Also, Eder Militao is gearing up for the Man City game. Militao is set to start in Manchester as Sergio Ramos is out of the game through suspension.

Zinedine Zidane’s side will have three weeks to plan for that game, which they trail 2-1, and the Real mentor has given his group this week off to recover. Be that as it may, Guardiola, whose side visit Watford on Tuesday night and end the season at home to Norwich on Sunday, will prepare right through to 7 August with no rest for his exhausted players.

“We are going with a particular goal in mind to play against Real Madrid, we are going to attempt to keep up our cadence, we will recall what Madrid is, see the games they’ve played since lockdown,” Guardiola said.

We are going to see how they play and get ready for the game, similar to we get ready for different games yet with the preferred position that we have more an ideal opportunity to plan explicit things about them.

“It’s a last and we need to get ready appropriately. We were two months off for the Covid-19, presently we are going to prepare the particular method to play one game. Now and then you have worldwide ideas yet now we are attempting to be progressively explicit against one rival.”

City’s helpless showcase against Mikel Arteta’s Gunners at Wembley unmistakably got the City chief off guard. With little for his group to play for in the staying two Premier League games, he is now turning his players’ concentration to the Spanish adversaries.

Guardiola stated: “I was clear after the game, knockout games you need to do a decent exhibition and it was bad enough, that can occur.

It is anything but a grievance, it occurred, we didn’t do it. Against Madrid we need to do a decent game, all the cups are one game and on Saturday it was bad enough.

“It’s overlooked. We are energized and idealistic against Madrid. On the off chance that we play at a nice level we’ll get our opportunity, if not we’ll be out.”

In seven days in which the confrontational Guardiola has hit out at City’s faultfinders following their effective intrigue against a Champions League boycott, the administrator likewise couldn’t avoid another verbal correspond at Arsenal.

Guardiola was rankled at eight Premier League clubs who reached the Court of Arbitration for Sport while they were thinking over the City’s intrigue. What’s more, there is still sick inclination at the Etihad over how the Gunners pursued Guardiola’s then-collaborator Arteta to take over at the Emirates prior this season.

Guardiola stated: “We didn’t play the first half against Arsenal like the second. That was the main lament. We needed to play an hour and a half like the subsequent half.

“Be that as it may after we were beaten we shake hands. The adversaries consistently merit my regard and credit. Also, Arsenal… I have all the regard for what they are on the pitch, not much off the pitch – but rather on the pitch, a ton.”

Talking after Madrid wrapped up their residential battle with a 2-2 draw against Leganes on Sunday – an outcome that sentenced their neighbors to transfer – Zidane says his players will be permitted some an ideal opportunity to unwind, however, is resolute the following barely any weeks won’t be an occasion.

“It is not a holiday that we have now,” he said. “

Presently, I don’t consider City. We need to separate somewhat, at that point we will have constantly to think. We will have 10-15 days to think. We will disengage.

Champions League Final:

Until the very late we are going to battle to go to that last, yet now you don’t need to consider the Champions League Final. The time has come to rest and consider gathering quality. The last stretch has been an enormous exertion. Presently we as a whole need some unwinding. This is the thing that we will do.

“After these four or five days off, we go back and think about the Champions League. No stress or worries.”

Madrid was a long way from their best against Leganes yet Zidane wouldn’t be excessively condemning of his players.

“During the game, you can get angry because we didn’t play at our level,” he said.

“We didn’t win but we didn’t lose either. In the end, I prefer to focus on what we did before today. The season has been spectacular. We have to be happy with what we did.”

During a passionate TV meet after the last whistle, Leganes chief Unai Bustinza said he was pleased with his colleagues’ readiness to battle until the end.

Madrid’s 2-1 triumph at home to Villarreal guaranteed they were delegated, Spanish heroes. Annihilation presses mentor Quique Setien, who took over in January with Barcelona sitting head of the table. Club president Josep Maria Bartomeu has said Setien will stay in control for the Champions League one month from now.

Barca plays their subsequent leg at home to Napoli, with the last-16 connection the parity at 1-1.

“The feeling of the team is that it tries but can’t do it, that we leave a lot to be desired in many areas and today in the first half I think they were better than us,” Messi said after the loss to Osasuna.

I said sometime in the past that if we proceeded along these lines, it would be hard to win the Champions League and that has been demonstrated to be the situation in La Liga as well.

“If we want to fight for the Champions League we will have to change a lot because otherwise the match against Napoli, we will lose that as well.”

Messi scored a splendid free-kick against Osasuna yet it was insufficient. Madrid pulled seven focuses away from Barcelona in front of Sunday’s last round of games.

“We didn’t expect or want to finish like this but it almost sums up the whole year,” said Messi. “We have been very inconsistent, very weak, beaten on intensity or desire.

“They created chances very easily and scored. During the whole year, we have been inconsistent and we have lost a lot of points where we shouldn’t have. This game showed what this year has been about for us.”

We must act naturally basic. Messi has been disparaging of the board this season and recommended everybody at the club should take a lot of the fault.

“After the break, Madrid has not lost any games and they deserve credit for that but we have also helped them a lot,” said Messi.

“We lost a lot of games that we should not have lost and we have to be self-critical, starting with the players, but it has to be a total self-criticism from everyone because we are Barcelona and we are obliged to win the matches whatever happens and instead look at us.”

On the off chance that Barcelona comes through against Napoli, they will confront Bayern Munich in the last eight, with a compacted organization of single legs right through to the last.

“I think we need a little air, this break will be good for us, to clear our heads, forget about everything that has happened,” said Messi.

“It has been very bad from December until now but it is the Champions League and there are four games that can give you a trophy that we all want. But we have to change a lot and be very self-critical.”
