According to Uefa, cup competitions will subsequently be shortened next term in a bid to minimize the effect of coronavirus across football in Europe. Scrapping this season would cost the Premier League around £750 million but plans are now afoot to draw up a plan which would see the 2019/20 campaign finished in five months’ time.
Alexander Ceferin, the Uefa president, told the Italian Paper La Republican: “There is the possibility of ending this season at the start of the next, which would then be delayed and begin later.”
Gordon Taylor, the chief executive of the Professional Footballers’ Association (PFA), added: I don’t see why there should not be a flexible approach by everyone to finish this season in the proper manner no matter how long it takes.
